About Knusjes Ceramics

Hello, my name is Vicky.

A very warm welcome to Knusjes Ceramics. Knusjes (pronounced kah-news-jes) meaning ‘Cosy ones’ or ‘Snug’ and comes from the Dutch vocabulary. It is the inspiration behind the products made.

Wintertime, 2010, was my first proper stay in the Netherlands and a first encounter with the Southern Dutch way of slowing down, and being present.

As you walk over the cobbled, medieval, narrow streets of Maastrict (in the province of Limburg) or up to the snow lined chalet-inspired restaurants in Valkenburg, you'll find, in the evening, they are dimly lit by inviting fire pits that line the pavements with groups of people huddled around. Relaxed, blushed, faces look up from their rustic mugs, full of sweet hot chocolate, laden with cream and under the cosy fur blankets that the cafes/resturants provide. They look happy. While others relax with a triple strength beer and bitterballen (if you know, you know..) you cannot help to be impressed by the atmosphere, warm and friendly, down to earth, or be chilled out by the Hygge-like decor everywhere. It was a gezellig / knusjes moment.

Knusjes recognises the small joys in life. It’s those things that make you smile or sigh contentedly. The ethos is of quiet contentment, with all products being uniquely hand made, and illustrated I hope you enjoy them for years to come.

A graphic designer by background the maker is a self-taught ceramicist, illustrator/ creative. Passionate about creating unique ceramics that will bring a little enjoyment in life when displayed around the home, or that makes a lovely gift for someone special.
